In December we hosted a Cyclocross race at the winery, and a friend of ours, David Scott Baker, with Selland’s Market Cafe, came to enjoy the day with Dave Kause, a cycling road racer living in Sacramento. During our conversation Dave mentioned he was starting the Shriners Cycling Team, a road racing team that would participate during the Northern California and Nevada Cycling Association 2010 season.
The most intriguing part: a portion of what the cycling team raised from each race would go back to Shriners Hospitals for Children®. What a great cause!

The Northern California Shriners Hospital for Children® is located in Sacramento. It is an 80-bed pediatric hospital, research and teaching center providing comprehensive medical, surgical and rehabilitative care to children up to the age of eighteen. The medical team at Shriners’ specialize in orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, and most importantly, the patients and families have no financial obligation.
What they do is amazing! After taking a tour of the hospital, combined with personally knowing a past-patient of the hospital, and a few stories of how families have been fortunate enough to receive care from the team in Sacramento, I realized what an honor it would be to be involved in something that gives to this organization. So we paired up with the Shriners Cycling Team as a sponsor!
Besides participating in races, the team is also throwing a fundraising event at the Northern California Shriners Hospital for Children®.
Stay tuned for event details!
