OUR DIVERSE WINEGROWING REGIONS
Although our home is located in Acampo, California, just outside the town of Lodi, our farming extends across four counties in Northern California: San Joaquin, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo. While each county demonstrates unique winegrowing characteristics, three distinct regions emerge.
Location: Between San Francisco and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Climate: Classic Mediterranean, taking advantage of the gap between the northern and southern coastal ranges surrounding the San Francisco Bay. As the day’s temperature rises, breezes drift in from the Delta, keeping the nights cool.
Terroir: The soil-types are well drained with low to medium fertility, allowing the vines to slowly draw water.
CLEMENTS HILLS SUB-APPELLATION
Location: Tucked beneath the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Climate: A variety of microclimates exist within the rolling hills of the region. The Mediterranean climate can create a 30 degree temperature change over a 24 hour period.
Terroir: Well-drained, shallow and cobbled soil with medium fertility.
Location: On the Sacramento River in the heart of the Delta.
Climate: Profound maritime influence of the Sacramento Delta. Cool mornings give way to warm afternoons and temperatures quickly cool again in the evenings.
Terroir: With land at or below sea level, the fertile soil attracts and holds nutrients and water which calls for constant monitoring.
